Innovation Solutions
ICT tools have proven their ability to produce innovative solutions to enhance individual skills and improve the quality of life of different community groups.
Hence, it was necessary to adopt innovative ways to utilize ICTs in community development, depending on the living conditions, customs and traditions that govern each society, especially remote communities of a special nature. In some societies, some groups are denied access to ICT tools which is manifested for women in the desert Bedouin communities.
Throughout the Fund's history, it has sought to produce technological solutions and applications that help overcome these constraints. The Tabluter tool is the first and most innovative tool for technological communication with remote communities of a special nature.
Thus, the Egyptian ICT Fund team has created innovative tools that rely on the local environment so as to create new technological infrastructure to help increase local community access to ICT's.
Tabluter is based on the traditional wooden table known in Egypt as a "tableya." This word was combined with the word "computer", and eventually we get an innovative computer, a wooden pallet with a central processing unit for four independent users, each with its own screen, keyboard and mouse, and its own sound card. The tabulater is placed in a citizen's home where literacy classes are implemented.
In this way, Tabluter can empower individuals, especially women in rural and remote communities, to access ICT tools while maintaining their privacy in their homes, thereby respecting community traditions that may be a barrier bridging the digital divide and the eradication of illiteracy.
Moreover, the Fund has adopted more innovative solutions for knowledge sharing services, including the Agricultural Expert System, where the Agricultural Knowledge Management System was created through the Local Expert System, developed in collaboration with a number of agricultural experts and with the aim of building an effective, knowledge-based model to solve problems in specific knowledge areas through the development of expert systems. These systems have been designed by agricultural practitioners, enabling farmers in Egypt to easily improve agricultural production using state-of-the-art technology tools (Internet applications, mobile phones), facilitating access to agricultural information and knowledge, the local.
